A sports bar in Panama is an unlikely venue for the whisky tasting experience of a lifetime.
I was with some friends watching the Preakness Stakes on one of the huge TV screens.
One of my friends was Canadian and he got to talking to a couple of his fellow countryman in the bar.
One of these gentlemen very kindly produced a bottle of 1989 special edition single cask Lagavulin that had been bottled in 2005.
After acquiring five shot glasses he poured us all a dram.
Unfortunately it was somewhat wasted on my Canadian and Australian friends as they clearly hadn't the palate to appreciate a truly wonderful malt whisky.
I waxed so poetical about it I had another two glasses pressed upon me!
A terrific whisky and definitely my favourite.
