In 1898 Dewars Whisky appreared in the first ever filmed advertisment for a drink. This was the first year the Aberfeldy Distillery opened.Dewars remained a pioneer in advertising when in 1911 they created the largest mechanical sign in Europe on the Thames Embankment in London hen prohibition started in the USA in 1923, Dewars expansion continued in Europe with the acquisition of distilleries in Ord, Parkmore, Pultney and Aultmore. In 1925 Dewars, Buchanans and Johnnie Walker amalgamated with The Distillers Company Ltd. Pre war the industry suffered major shortages of barley and this caused the Aberfeldy distillery to have to close between 1942 and 1944. Post war however the brand and the industry took off. New production facilities were opened at Inveralmond, Perth, whilst the Aberfeldy Distillery expanded to cope withthe increase in demand.
