John Dewar actually launched his Dewars Whisky business in 1846 and very quickly developed sales in a number of Countries.
By the end of the 1900's not only had Dewars received the Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria, but they had developed a thriving business in the USA and opening its first office in Beaker Street, New York.
In 1898 Dewars Whisky appreared in the first ever filmed advertisment for a drink.
This was the year the Aberfeldy Distillery opened.
Dewars remained a pioneer in advertising when in 1911 they created the largest mechanical sign in Europe on the Thames Embankment in London
hen prohibition started in the USA in 1923, Dewars expansion continued in Europe with the acquisition of distilleries in Ord, Parkmore, Pultney and Aultmore.
In 1925 Dewars, Buchanans and Johnnie Walker amalgamated with The Distillers Company Ltd.
Pre war the industry suffered major shortages of barley and this caused the Aberfeldy distillery to have to close between 1942 and 1944. Post war however the brand and the industry took off.
New production facilities were opened at Inveralmond, Perth, whilst the Aberfeldy Distillery expanded to cope withthe increase in demand.
By the late 1980's the Dewars White Label brand became the largest selling Scotch Whisky brand in the United States.
Dewars also became the official sponsor of the Dewars Hogmanah celebrations in the year 2000, sponsoring a massive, and world famous Millenium party on the Royal Mile in Edingburgh.
By 2005 Dewars Whisky extended their Dewars range, and celebrated by winning no more than 19 Whiskey Awards at competitive tastings including a Gold Medal at Whisky magazines Best of the Best for Dewars 18.
Like most of the major distilleries, Dewars are proud to conduct tours of their distillery at Aberfeldy in Perthshire.
The only time of the year that the tours are not run is in the months of October and November. Months they call the silent season.

Aberfeldy offers a rich selection of accommodation for the visitor and really does have something for everyone.
There is a campsite which is just minutes from the distillery door, and there are local bunkhouses at Weem and Glassie for the more adventurous.

In 2002 Dewars Whisky became the Whisky sponsor of the world famous Edinburgh Tattoo, which is the number 1 tourist attraction in Scotland.

A decent, punchy, mildly biting blend where the grains are proud to show themselves and the malt makes enjoyable, soothing and sweetening noises. the toffee dims the sparkle somewhat.
