I wanted to help you to find your Best Whisky
Probably the most asked question is which is the best whisky to buy or try?
As I’ve mentioned on the home page this is a very subjective question and ultimately as they say, “it is depends on what floats your boat”. One person’s best whiskey is actually someone elses poison, but never the less a question that is widely asked. I’ve therefore tried to create this page to help you decide which is actually your favorite based on some good information.
Whisky Awards
The following were voted the best whisky in 2008 and so if you are looking to try a new one then this list is a good place to start. The ‘Best of Whisky’ AWARDS for ‘2008’BEST of THIS WORLDThe Macallan 18 Year Old BEST of BLEND or VATTEDMonkey Shoulder BEST of CANADAForty Creek Double Barrel Reserve BEST of AMERICAMakers Mark BEST of IRELANDRedBreast 12 year BEST of SCOTLANDLaphroaig Quarter Cask BEST of ‘FRUGAL’ BANG FOR THE BUCKHighland Park 12 BEST of ‘GETS NO RESPECT’ hidden gemYamazaki 18 year BEST of ‘PACKAGING’Highland Park Best of ’THE WORST’ – least favorite tasted this yearBushmills 10 The malt monk’s Cellar Award..If the monk was stranded on a deserted island in 2008 and could only pick one whisky to keep him company; What would it be? Choose your best whisky
I’ve recently come across the following website where the web master is a Dutch guy called Johannes van den Heuvel from Amsterdam who is clearly “mad” about malt whisky, so much so he has personally sampled as many as he can get his hands on. Not only that he has published his tasting notes on his site. A superb place to browse in order to decide which whisky to buy next.
Malt madness
Whisky is just a drink
I would suggest that above all else that you go and try the vast number of whiskies that are available. As the awards list above shows there are some terrific whiskies produced from all over the world. Either park yourself in a good bar and have a night of appreciation, or alternatively why not have a holiday in some of the whiskey areas of the world and take the opportunity of visiting the beautiful countries that make whisky.I’m English and so my favourites have to be British.
Scotland is the home of my personal Best Whisky
with the traditional charm and history of
Ireland coming a close second.
You can taste some terrific whiskies, in the distilleries where they are made, whilst visiting some amazing countryside. If you would like more information on the distillery visits then please click here.
